Focus Features has dropped the first trailer for Lisa Frankenstein, teasing a monster romance between a teenage girl and an undead boy played by Cole Sprouse.

Directed by Zelda Williams, the daughter of late comedian Robin Williams, Lisa Frankenstein is a horror rom-com revolving around lonely, misunderstood 1980s high school goth girl Lisa Swallows (Kathryn Newton), who develops an unusual crush on the corpse of a boy from the Victorian era. After Lisa digs up his body and accidentally reanimates him with a tanning bed, the two engage in ghoulish hijinks that involve axing people for missing body parts.

The trailer sees Lisa become just as shocked about her crush being brought back to life as he is confused about why he was reanimated in the first place. From there, their relationship goes through roller coaster of judgments from other people and a killing spree to sew Lisa's undead suitor back together — despite the advice Lisa passes down to him from her friend, "Taffy says it's a waste of time to try and fix a boy, it's better to just accept a guy's flaws."

The script for Lisa Frankenstein was written by Diablo Cody, who geniusly penned the dialogue for Juno and Jennifer's Body, another horror rom-com starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried.

Williams wrote on X, formerly Twitter, about her enthusiasm about making the film after reading Cody's script last year (via People), saying, "I know Hollywood gets a bad rep for regurgitating sequels and remakes and reboots over and over and over… and yeah, it totally does that! But it's also finally letting me make the most bonkers, wonderful zombie script I've ever read, and for that, I will be forever grateful!"

Lisa Frankenstein releases in theaters February 9, 2024.
