Hugh Jackman has recalled one particularly bizarre direction that Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy would occasionally have to shout on set: "Fresh lube on Hugh."
The actor explained in an X/Twitter post how he got in shape for the 2024 superhero flick and his first outing as Wolverine since 2017, and thanked his "incredible team" for helping him do so. "There’s no hope in hell I would have gotten there without them," Jackman said.
But to make sure all that hard work paid off on camera, in the handful of scenes where Wolverine didn't wear his iconic yellow suit, Jackman had to be covered in a special oil.

"Whitney, my makeup artist, was called to put on some kind of oil to make my skin glisten," Jackman said. "You would hear Shawn Levy yell out, ‘fresh lube on Hugh.’ Everyone would laugh."
Whether it was the wealth of references and cameos from Marvel cinematic history or Jackmon's glistening abs, something about Deadpool & Wolverine drew people to theatres. The film crossed $1 billion at the global box office in just its third weekend available.
In IGN's 7/10 review, we said: "Deadpool & Wolverine is a hilarious superhero buddy comedy full of surprising, self-referential MCU humor and unsurprising plot and pacing problems."
