Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker star Daisy Ridley is returning to the galaxy far, far away in a film set 15 years later, and she thinks her Sequel Trilogy co-star John Boyega should also come back.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley was asked if Boyega would appear in the new film too, and though she wouldn't give any direct answer, she did when asked if she wants him to return.

"Absolutely, of course," Ridley said. "It feels like we should, yeah."

Boyega, who played Finn in Episodes 7, 8, and 9, was ultimately left disappointed with his Star Wars experience, and has been vocal about how his character as a black man was sidelined in favor of the series' white characters. “They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let's be honest,” he said in 2020. “Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I'm not exposing anything.”

Absolutely, of course. It feels like we should.

After Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's film directed by Finn was announced, however, Boyega was asked about returning to the franchise once more and appeared a little more open to it.

"[The comments I made were] a few years ago, so they were the subject of that particular project," he said. "But I'm open to all characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have a great cast attached, and a terrific director. So yeah, I'm open to all opportunities."

Very little has been said about the sequel since its announcement in April 2023, when it was revealed as a film focused on Ridley's character Rey as she looks to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley herself has commented on the film a few times, but has remained adamant she still knows very little beyond a general outline.

It probably won't feature her character as a mother though, and Ridley also said in November 2023 that it's a "really cool" film that isn't at all what she expected. "I haven’t read anything, but I know the story," she said at the time. "It’s really worth telling, worth exploring, and I think people will be excited."

She later said the film will take Star Wars in a different direction, and it's also the first directed by a woman. "Once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew that it was something I really wanted to do," Ridley said at the time. "I think it's a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It's a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction."

Its release date is also unknown, though Disney has two unknown Star Wars films set for December 18, 2026 and December 17, 2027. The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the next Star Wars film and hit cinemas on May 22, 2026, but the two remaining dates could go to any of the several upcoming films.
