Development on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is starting to take off, with the DC Studios project landing a screenwriter.

IGN has confirmed that actress and playwright Ana Nogueira will write the screenplay for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s first phase of their revamped DCU. THR first broke the news on Tuesday.

Interestingly, it’s a bit of a second chance for Nogueira. According to THR, Nogueira was originally hired by Warner Bros. to write a Supergirl film that would spin off from this past summer’s The Flash. After The Flash disappointed majorly at the box office, however, those plans were scrapped. Still, Gunn and Safran reportedly liked her work on that script, thus bringing her back for Woman of Tomorrow.

Sashe Calle played Supergirl in The Flash, and it’s currently unclear if she’ll reprise the role in Woman of Tomorrow. Gunn and Safran’s new DCU reportedly won’t have any Justice League actors reprising their characters, although that hasn’t counted out others from returning. John Cena will return to lead Peacemaker, Viola Davis will come back for Waller, and Gunn previously clarified that Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in some capacity.

No director is currently attached to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. At the official reveal of the first phase of the new DCU, titled Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, Gunn teased that the Kara Zor-El that we’ll see here "is much more hardcore and not the Supergirl we're used to.”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow doesn’t currently have a release date. Superman: Legacy, meanwhile, will keep its July 11, 2025, release date despite the recently ended Hollywood strikes, Gunn confirmed a few days ago.
