Lawmen: Bass Reeves is the latest Western series to join the ranks of Paramount+. Paramount has become a haven for modern Westerns, with Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923 all helping to revitalize the genre. Yet, just like most traditional Westerns, the focus of the story is still only about protagonists of one race. While Yellowstone has had some focus on the First Nation characters of the series, it has predominately been about the Dutton's and their fight to keep their land the way it is. Lawmen: Bass Reeves on other hand tells the story of an escaped slave who becomes a Western legend. Not only is this story compelling, but having a person of color lead the series helps to show the Western genre from a new perspective.
