Netflix has unveiled a first look at the hotly anticipated The Fall of the House of Usher: Season 1, with new photos and a poster tease.

The horror drama miniseries created by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting series, Midnight Mass) consists of eight episodes, and stars Bruce Greenwood (Captain Pike in J. J. Abrams's Star Trek reboot series), who replaced the fired Frank Langella, Carla Gugino (Olivia Crain in The Haunting of Hill House), Mary McDonnell, Mark Hamill, and Rahul Kohli.

The Fall of the House of Usher is based on the short story by Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1839. Here’s the setup: “In this wicked series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, ruthless siblings Roderick [Flanagan] and Madeline Usher [McDonnell] have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.”

In an interview conducted during production last year, Carla Gugino said: "It's batshit crazy in the best possible way. It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.

"There is a fantastical supernatural element to the story, and she is the manifestation of that. You could say she's the executor of fate or the executor of karma.”

The Fall of the House of Usher launches on Netflix October 12.
