DC is in talks with Craig Gillespie to direct its Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie for Warner Bros., according to a report from Deadline that IGN is able to confirm.

It’s a move that could put the Dumb Money, Cruella, and I, Tonya director at the forefront of DC’s plans to introduce a new superhero universe for moviegoers. Gillespie isn’t officially on board yet, though, so it’s best to keep expectations in check until DC and Warner Bros. are ready to formally announce his inclusion.

DC's film, TV, and animation co-CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran, will produce the Supergirl movie, with executive vice president Chantal Nong attached as executive producer. Its story is based on Tom King’s comic book series of the same name and features a screenplay from Ana Nogueira. The plan is to begin filming in Q4 2025 after shooting for Gunn’s Superman film is complete.

How Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will change its narrative from the comic it's based on remains a mystery, but we do at least know that its title character will be played by House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock. Gunn spoke about the kind of superhero viewers can expect to see at a press event last year, teasing that a darker version of the character is on the horizon: “She is much more hardcore and not the Supergirl we're used to.”

While Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hasn’t pinned its release date yet, you won’t have to wait long to see Alcock in action. Viewers can expect to see the character appear in at least one other DC movie first, though it's unclear which it will be.
