Film adaptations of Sega franchises like Persona and Yakuza/Like a Dragon are a possibility, the company has said.

Speaking to CNBC, chief operating officer Shuji Utsumi said Sega is looking to continue the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog film adaptations by growing the reach of its other franchises too.

Utsumi mentioned Persona and Yakuza/Like a Dragon specifically when talking about which other franchises it could expand, making clear Sega is considering several potential different areas of business to bring these IPs to.

All these IPs can be somewhere else other than games soon.

"We just revived Sonic in a big way, not only through games but also movies and TV shows, and actually Sonic is in Roblox too," Utsumi said. "And we're working closely now with Lego. So now Sonic is reviving.

"We have other major IPs and, I cannot say too much about it but we are thinking of reviving other classical Sega IPs too. Right now there are two big IPs other than Sonic. One is Persona," he continued. "And also our Yakuza titles. Yakuza is really unique. But that big one is also coming next year too.

"But also, as I say, we are trying to be in a lot of different kinds of business areas, like Roblox, movies. All these IPs can be somewhere else other than games soon."

Both franchises are certainly going at full speed in the gaming space, with Persona 5 Tactica launching on November 17 and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name having launched on November 9.

Each has a major release in 2024 too. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth launches first on January 26 while a remake of the third Persona game, titled Persona 3: Reload, arrives soon after on February 2.
