Netflix has shared its first proper tease for One Piece Season 2, all but confirming which manga arc the live action show will follow and which characters will appear.
A short video celebrating protagonist Monkey D. Luffy's birthday was released on TikTok on May 5 (below) and showed star Iñaki Godoy offering thanks to the character with what appeared to be a cake shaped like a candle. This had an actual candle on top too, however, shaped like the number three.
Just as One Piece Season 1 followed the East Blue manga arc, it therefore appears Season 2 will follow the Arabasta arc, featuring the Baroque Works criminal syndicate. This organisation includes myriad baddies named after numbers and holidays, with each one boasting a bizarre ability.
@onepiecenetflix It’s May 5th, NAKAMA! ? Join our captain Iñaki Godoy in celebrating the greatest, coolest, and most inspiring pirate to ever sail the Grand Line. Happy B-B-B-B-Birthday, Monkey D. Luffy! ?️?

Mr. 3 is one such character, and after eating the Wax Wax Fruit, he has the ability to create and control candle wax, thus the big candle and number three tease from Netflix.
While fans generally expected Season 2 to follow the Arabasta arc, this TikTok post essentially confirms it, and also suggests fans will get to see many of the wild and wacky characters which appeared in it during the original manga.
If this is familiar to fans of the Netflix show already, Baroque Works was also mentioned during an early Season 1 scene where Zoro killed a red haired Mr. 7. This suggests Netflix is prepared to showcase at least 15 of the baddies, from Mr. 1 to Mr 7. their holiday themed partners, and the mysterious leader Mr 0.
Little else has been said about Season 2 since its renewal in September 2023, though Netflix is reportedly targeting a 2025 premiere date with filming expected to begin in June 2024. Jamie Lee Curtis will seemingly play a character called Doctor Kureha too, after sharing her interest in the role and the team saying "at this point we're writing for her".
Season 2 will otherwise present some interesting challenges for the Netflix team as it introduces a 90cm tall human/reindeer hybrid called Tony Tony Chopper to the main cast of characters. It's also played around with some expectations regarding another major Season 2 character, which will likely be fully addressed at some point during the season.
