Indie comics are telling some of the most innovative and intriguing stories in comics, and Image Comics is the largest and most successful of the indie comic publishers. By allowing its creators to own their work, in contrast to the major publishers Marvel and DC, who retain control over their titles, Image Comics is able to present comic book stories that stray far from the often formulaic superhero sagas many people associate with comic books.
