DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has given a wider update on the upcoming DCU and confirmed Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of 2025's Superman (previously Superman: Legacy).

In a series of posts on Threads, Gunn gave updates on the highly anticipated second season of the John Cena-starring show, and also shared how it will fit in with other DCU titles like the Viola Davis-led series Waller.

Gunn, who led Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad for the defunct DC Extended Universe, reiterated to fans that Season 1 is not part of the DCU but Season 2 is. He also made clear Superman was created as a DCU entry and never planned for the DCEU.

"Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events in Superman," Gunn said. When asked if the events of Superman will have an impact on the second season, he responded with a clear "yes". Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 will also be shot simultaneously, meaning that, just like Season 1, Gunn will only direct some episodes "in the interest of getting the show out there".

It's unclear how Peacemaker's transition from DCEU to DCU will work exactly, though Gunn said "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes". He also confirmed all of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, meaning Cena will be joined by the likes of Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

As for Waller, Gunn made clear it's "still happening", with creators Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver "hard at work writing great stuff". It will arrive later in Chapter 1: Gods and Monster than was expected, however, as "the schedule was impacted by the strikes".

Though no specific release window was shared, Gunn confirmed that Waller, and everything that happens in the show, will come after Peacemaker Season 2. Other films and shows were affected by the strikes too, but Gunn didn't say anything more specific.

And finally, Gunn said animated show Creature Commandos, which kicks off the DCU in late 2024, will take place before the events of Superman. The series will star Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Indira Varma as The Bride, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Sean Gunn as Weasel and G.I. Robot, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Anya Chalotra as Circe.

Superman will follow, sticking to its July 11, 2025 release date despite the writer and actor strikes which brought Hollywood to a standstill in 2023 and affected other DCU projects. It will tell the story of a young Superman as he looks to balance his Kryptonian and Kansan heritage, though definitely won't be an origin story.

Lots of other DC characters will appear in the film, such as Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan will play Metamorpho, and María Gabriela as The Engineer. Gunn confirmed these actors would play the roles in other DCU projects too, only starring beside David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane as supporting characters.

Little is known about the other projects beyond Milly Alcock's casting in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, though a couple of directors have been confirmed. Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold is writing Swamp Thing as a "simple, clean, gothic horror movie", while The Flash director Andy Muschietti will lead Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
