After Disney cut ties with Jonathan Majors on the MCU front, it looks like the Disney-owned Searchlight Pictures will also not be releasing the Majors-starring drama film Magazine Dreams.

Per a report on Tuesday from THR, Searchlight has quietly sold the rights to Magazine Dreams, which stars Majors as an aspiring bodybuilder, back to the filmmakers. What that means is that the filmmakers now have the chance to bring the movie to other studios in hopes that it might eventually see the light of day - but it won't be under Disney/Searchlight. According to the report, Searchlight Pictures broke the news to the Magazine Dreams team last week.

The development comes a few weeks after Majors was found guilty of harassment and assault in a domestic violence trial between himself and ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. He faces up to a year in prison when he's sentenced on February 6.

Previously, Disney had announced that it removed Magazine Dreams from its release schedule, with no new release date rescheduled.

Searchlight scooped up Magazine Dreams after it premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, with many critics praising Majors' lead performance in particular. "Even as the pacing falters, Majors is impossible to look away from: a man who desperately needs the world to see him — and if they refuse, to feel his pain," wrote EW's Leah Greenblatt.

More Majors Fallout

Magazine Dreams had its festival debut as Majors' career was hitting a high point, with his role as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantunmania setting him up as a central villain in the MCU's Phase 5, just as he was also garnering attention for his performance in Creed III. His rise came crashing to a halt, however, after he was arrested in March under charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment.

While Majors' legal team has and continues to maintain his innocence, the fallout has been significant. Majors still starred in Loki Season 2, which was written and shot before the arrest, but Disney confirmed that they would not be moving forward with him just hours after he was convicted in December. THR also reported last week that he was dropped from the Dennis Rodman film 48 Hours in Vegas.
