The Sonos One has a built-in microphone so it can entirely replace your Amazon Echo or Google Home device as your primary voice assistant. The sound quality is infinitely better than most Echo options (the more expensive Studio being the exception). You are also not limited to using Amazon Music of Spotify. For example, the Sonos One works very well with Apple Music over Airplay.
The "SL" in the Sonos Arc SL means "silence", and that's because the only difference is the lack of a microphone. The SL removes the mic for people who are worried about Alexa or Google Assistant inadvertantly listening in on conversation.
