Spider-Man's "Clone Saga," is a sprawling epic that dominated his books for more than two years in the mid-1990s. Simply put, the plot revolves around a clone of Peter named Ben Reilly who returns to New York and is declared the original Parker, even taking on the mantle of Spider-Man for a time before dying heroically. The main problem was it was anything but simple, and the endless twists and turns exhausted the web-head's fanbase. By the time the long-running storyline finally ended, fans wanted to put it behind them and Marvel was happy to oblige. Peter Parker was back in the Spidey suit and the whole event was swept under the rug.
