The Nun II has held off The Equalizer 3 and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 to secure a domestic weekend box office victory with its $32.6 million debut.
As reported by Comscore, The Nun II brought in another $52.7 million internationally and its global tally now sits at $85.3 million.
In our The Nun II review, which is part of The Conjuring universe that has brought in over $2 billion at the global box office, we said it is "a marked improvement on its predecessor, as the winning duo of Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet reward the faith of Conjuring fans with a scarier, meatier boarding school nightmare that makes great use of Valak the Demon Nun, even if the mythology-heavy plot specifics get a little lost along the way."
The Equalizer 3 took second place with a domestic haul of $12.1 million. Denzel Washington's latest action adventure has now brought in $61.9 million in North America and $107.7 million worldwide.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 took third place in its debut weekend with domestic ticket sales of $10 million. Another newcomer, Jawan, placed fourth with $7.56 million in North America.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 tells the story of the Portokalos family's trip to a family reunion in Greece while Jawan is focused on a man whose mission is to right the wrongs of the society he lives in while also getting justice from those who wronged him in the past.
Barbie rounded out the top five in its eighth weekend in theaters with $5.9 million domestically. Barbie has earned $620.47 million in North America and $1.40 billion worldwide in its impressive theatrical run.
