The Marvels comes only a few months after Secret Invasion aired on Disney+, and already makes its storyline completely pointless. Secret Invasion acts as an interlude of sorts for the character of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in between the events of Captain Marvel and The Marvels. In the Disney+ series, Fury fights to protect humanity from a zealous band of shape-shifting Skrull refugees who want to claim Earth for themselves. While he is able to defeat their leader by the end of the series, the Skrulls are still without a homeworld, leaving them doomed to die out over the course of the next few generations.
