After making a smartwatch under the Pixel brand last year, Google officially announced its wearable's next iteration: the Pixel Watch 2.
As part of its Made by Google keynote, the tech giant unveiled new specs available on the Pixel Watch 2. As previously teased by Google, the Pixel Watch 2 has an externally designed overhaul, with the sensor array being adjusted. The second generation Pixel Watch uses a more circular design with smaller circle LEDs housing the sensors.
Google promises that the Pixel Watch 2 will have a 24-hour battery life on a single charge when using the always-on display mode for the wearable, with a promise that the watch can receive a full charge in 12 hours.
To ensure active Pixel Watch 2 users are safe while engaging in physical activity, Goole is bringing Safety Check to the Pixel Watch 2. This feature originally debuted on the Pixel phones, allowing users on a hike or hunting trip to set a timer for when they anticipate returning home. After the timer ends, you can start sharing your location with emergency contacts immediately, or immediately call 911.
In our review of the original Pixel Watch, my colleague Tom Jorgensen said, "Google's first smartwatch is a solid first attempt, despite a limited selection of apps and less-than-stellar integration with Google's own hardware ecosystem."
The Google Pixel Watch 2 will start at $349 with Wi-Fi and LTE versions available. Preorders begin today and shipping will start next week.
