M3GAN 2.0 just got a delay that will see its premiere pushed from January 17, 2025, to May 16, 2025 (via THR). It’s a four-month difference for Blumhouse and Universal's movie that gives it a new summer launch.

The decision arrives following the reveal of a new addition to the Blumhouse lineup in 2025. The project, a thriller called The Woman in the Yard, comes from Black Adam and Orphan director Jaume Collet-Serra. It stars Danielle Deadwyler and is set to hit theaters on January 10 next year. M3GAN 2.0’s new date gives the movie companies a bit more breathing room between releases.

The original M3GAN took over theaters early last year, giving viewers an attempt at a new take on the Child’s Play formula. Instead of a possessed doll named Chucky, the Blumhouse picture focuses on an overly attached, killer animatronic girl named M3GAN. It’s another creepy-toys-come-to-life experiment that proved popular enough among fans to warrant a sequel as well as a gorier extended cut that eventually arrived on Peacock.

M3GAN 2.0, was announced shortly after the release of the first film, with stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw both attached to return in some form. Screenwriter Akela Cooper is also attached to return for the sequel. Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but those familiar with the first film’s ominous ending might be able to come up with some theories of their own.

We gave the original M3GAN a 7/10 in our review, explaining that it lived up to the hype even if it had a few issues: “M3GAN capably proves herself more than a horror villain meme,” we said at the time, “although the film does sometimes struggle to balance the horror and comedy.”
