Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will feature the iconic main theme for Sonic Adventure 2, Live and Learn, when it comes to theaters later this year.
Aftermath reported on the song’s inclusion following a chat with Johnny Gioeli, the lead singer for Crush 40 and one of the voices that has helped power Sonic’s music for decades. He spells it out plainly: “I have indeed signed a deal with Paramount for song placement.”
However, how Live and Learn will appear is still a mystery. “How they will use it is strictly up to them,” Gioeli said. "... Paramount now has the legal right to use Live and Learn in any manner they feel necessary.”
Live and Learn was prominently featured on both the original Dreamcast release of Sonic Adventure 2 as well as its eventual updated re-release, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. It’s an edgy rock cut that has been played to death by Sonic fans for years, and no, no-one has ever gotten tired of it.
Gioeli is just as happy to hear that Paramount is interested in featuring the iconic song in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and is staying optimistic: “Let’s hope the movie does the song justice!”
Although the Live and Learn love is great news for longtime fans of the Blue Blur, it’s not the biggest surprise. Paramount released a trailer for the latest theatrical take on the character last week. It was little more than a logo reveal, but the music accompanying the footage does seem to offer a sneak peek at a version of the track that is (somehow) more dramatic.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will introduce Shadow the Hedgehog, alongside new faces played by Krysten Ritter, Alyla Browne, and more, when it comes to theaters on December 20, 2024.
