Final Fantasy 16 producer and 14 director Naoki Yoshida wishes everyone played games on the same console.
Spotted by Truno on ResetEra, Yoshida appeared on Taiwanese YouTube channel Muyao 4 Super Player and shared his thoughts on the PlayStation versus Xbox console debate.
"Game platforms... I probably shouldn't say this, but I wish there was only one," Yoshida said, translated by IGN. "It would be better for both the developers and the players."
The comments are perhaps particularly interesting given Yoshida's latest game, Final Fantasy 16, is a PlayStation 5 exclusive (with a PC release pending). His other main project, Final Fantasy 14, was a PlayStation console exclusive for the better part of a decade, but was announced for Xbox Series X and S in July.
Yoshida was joined by Xbox boss Phil Spencer on stage at Final Fantasy Fan Fest 2023 to announce the new version, something Yoshida was likely happy about given his latest comments.
The director hasn't always been sensitive to the sentiment that all gamers should be able to play all games though, blatantly telling those looking forward to Final Fantasy 16 to "buy a PS5" instead of waiting for a PC version.
