There is a new Doctor Who spinoff series, Tales of the TARDIS, that some people may dismiss as empty nostalgia and fan service. Putting aside that there's nothing wrong with Doctor Who storytellers pleasing the fans, such criticism does a disservice to what could become an important part of the Time Lord's overall story. With the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who celebration fast approaching, it's worth looking at why this little series is more than what it seems.
