One of the running gags of Futurama is to highlight all the times humanity has collapsed. Despite lasting well into the 31st Century, the human society of Futurama has found itself broken by multiple events -- with even a time-displaced Bender being responsible for one terrible ending. Humanity has fallen to robots several times over the course of the show, with one of the most effective happening completely on accident.
