Star Wars: The Acolyte will arrive on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, and its first trailer will be released tomorrow, March 19.
The big Star Wars news was shared on StarWars.com alongside a new ominous poster that has the words, "In an age of light, a darkness rises."
The Acolyte is set in the High Republic era of the Star Wars timeline, which is considered to be the "prime of the Jedi Order. However, not everything is perfect.
"In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems," the official description reads.
Joining Stenberg and Jung-jae in Star Wars: The Acolyte is Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Russian Doll's Leslye Headland is serving as the show's creator and showrunner and she will be an executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are co-executive producers and Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producers.
We still don't know too much about this series, but Stenberg did share that the show was developed with her in mind.
"All the artwork was conceptualized with my face, and Leslye was like, ‘So I’ve been working on this for about three or four years for you. I don’t know what I’m going to do if you don’t do it. No pressure,’" Stenberg said. "So I was sent to the moon, of course."
It was also confirmed that The Acolyte will have more Jedi than any other film or show and that it is "Frozen meets Kill Bill."
