Earlier this week, Valve announced a new developer tool that should make it much easier for PC players to determine which Steam games support PlayStation controllers.
A post on the Steamworks Development Events page mentions that developers now have access to a tool that will allow them to specify whether their games support DualShock 4 and/or DualSense controllers. The post mentions developers can describe the controller support for their specific game.
More interestingly, starting in October, Valve will roll out a feature that displays information on the Steam store and Steam Desktop app, allowing players to see which games support either controller. Valve further notes that new filters will roll out on the Steam Desktop client to signify whether a game you currently have in your library has support for a PlayStation controller. Some browse pages will also be updated to make it more seamless to find which new games are available on the digital storefront that will support those specific PlayStation gamepads.
The announcement shouldn't be too surprising considering that, while PC games are traditionally played on a mouse and keyboard, Steam pointed out that over 87 million users play at least one using a gamepad. Although most (according to Valve, 69%) of these players use an Xbox controller, Steam offers support for other gamepads, including the DualSense and Switch Pro controllers. Not to mention in recent years, Sony has been porting its games including Spider-Man Remastered, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and God of War onto PC and acquiring PC porting specialist Nixxes last year.
