Season 2 of House of the Dragon doesn't premiere for another three days, but the show is already slated for yet another season.

Today, HBO announced the renewal of House of the Dragon for its third season in a press release.

“George [R.R. Martin], Ryan [Condal], and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon," HBO Programming Executive Vice President Francesca Orsi said in the press release. "We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”

While not many details about Season 3 were revealed, the season is set to continue the story of House Targaryen that's set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Last year, Orsi told Deadline that she doesn't expect the show to be "any less than four" seasons long, but it "could be more."

We gave Season 1 a 9 in our review, calling it "a worthy prequel to Game of Thrones." The season also saw a particularly big twist, and IGN sat down with the cast to unpack what it meant for each of their characters. Ahead of Season 2's premiere on June 16, we also reviewed the Season 2 premiere (our review is spoiler free!).
