Ten years ago, Alfonso Cuarón first took cinema-goers on a journey into space with his groundbreaking film Gravity, and in 2023, it still holds up. In more recent times, it seems impossible to think that any visual effects-heavy feature will have the chance of aging gracefully. With the increasing workloads being placed on VFX houses, ever-tightening time crunches, and the pervasiveness of poorly planned productions continuing to adopt a "fix it in post" attitude, it's easy to feel that, despite advancements in technology, effects-heavy films are beginning to look worse and worse. Yet, Gravity and its photo-realistic renderings of space are still as immersive as when it was first released.
