Earlier this week, Amazon officially announced the dates for its October Prime Day sale. In classic Walmart fashion, the retail giant has just dropped the news that it will be having a massive counter sale. The Walmart October sale will be starting on the same day as Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days and run for four days longer.
When Does the Walmart Sale Start?
Walmart's early holiday deals will officially kick off on Tuesday, October 8 and run through October 13. Although the sale will be available to all Walmart shoppers at 12pm ET, those with a Walmart+ membership will get access to the sale a full 12 hours earlier online or in the app. You will also be able to shop the sale in stores starting on October 9.
What Will Be Included in the Sale?
Although Amazon didn't give us much to go off of in its October Prime Day announcement, Walmart has offered a sneak peek at some of the deals we can expect from the sale. You can check out the full press release from Walmart for all of the details.

Although this list of deals is fairly small, we can get a decent idea of what the larger sale will look like. Toys will likely be a key category Walmart will be looking to discount, which lines up with what Amazon has stated about its upcoming LEGO deals. There are also quite a few deals on home goods, like the portable carpet cleaner and HEPA air purifier, that make it seem likely there will be a higher density of deals on daily-use home appliances. The two laptop deals on this list, however, are fairly unimpressive and likely signal less of a focus on steep tech savings.
Will Walmart Match Amazon Prices?
This list of deals doesn't represent everything that will be on sale during October Prime Day. The bigger retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy will likely be matching prices on some of the bigger name-brand items, like every sales event. Apple products and video games are where we almost always see price matching, and this sale will be no different.
Should You Plan to Shop This Sale or Wait for Black Friday?
In general, October sales aren't usually as good as Black Friday overall. That being said, they are still a great time to save money on things you need right now. Home goods, clothing, and everyday items tend to be some of the hottest items of these sales and they are definitely worth browsing ahead of Black Friday discounts in November.
Still, you likely want to hold off on any really big tech purchases until the Black Friday 2024 sales actually arrive. Walmart in particular is known for having some of the best deals on TVs and Apple products during Black Friday.
