Disney has explained how Ahsoka's mysterious Inquisitor villain makes an appearance in the show despite being pulled from much earlier in the Star Wars timeline.

The Inquisitor, identifiable by the black gear and red lightsaber with a circular hilt, is called Marrok. Revealed in a databank entry on the Star Wars website, Marrok is now a mercenary for hire after giving up the Inquisitor title but keeping the outfit.

"Once an Inquisitor hunting Jedi for the Empire, the mysterious Marrok now works as a mercenary hired by Morgan Elsbeth to carry out dark deeds," the post said. "Fully encased in battered battle armour, the warrior still carries a red double-bladed saber with a circular hilt."

The reveal of Marrok in June caused confusion among Star Wars fans as the Inquisitors should have been long gone by the time Ahsoka is set. Originally introduced in the Rebels animated series, they eventually made their way to live action in Obi-Wan Kenobi but have never moved beyond the time period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

As Ahsoka is set in the New Republic Era, meaning alongside the likes of The Mandalorian and after Return of the Jedi, it was odd for fans to see an Inquisitor show up.

Ahsoka is set to feature other surprising characters, as one fan-favourite from the Prequel Trilogy was seemingly leaked by Star Wars merchandise.

The first two episodes of Ahsoka will premiere on Disney+ on August 23, while the remaining six episodes will be released each week. A trailer released earlier in July finally gave fans a look at Lars Mikkelsen's Thrawn, alongside other characters like Baylan Skoll, played by the late Ray Stevenson who died aged 58 earlier this year.
