Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has added an important Black Mirror director to its team while also nailing down an episode count, IGN can confirm.

The show, which was previously called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, will run for six episodes in Season 1. The first three will be directed by Owen Harris, who is best known for his work directing Black Mirror’s San Junipero, Be Right Back, and Striking Vipers episodes. This information was first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter today, and confirmed with HBO by IGN.

It’s unclear who will handle the directing work for the second half of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1. In addition to his work on Black Mirror, Harris recently directed four episodes of Peacock’s Mrs. Davis. He also handled the first episode of Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone revival and recently debuted his first feature film with Kill Your Friends at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Game of Thrones will expand its already massive universe when A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms eventually premieres sometime in 2025. It’s unclear exactly when it will air, but when it does, expect to see a story set around 100 years before the events of the original HBO series.

“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg,” the official longline says. “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on George R.R. Martin’s The Hedge Knight. In May of last year, HBO outlined hopes to see the show last for at least three seasons. Last month, the Game of Thrones spinoff picked up Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell to play its leads.

Game of Thrones might have come to a bitter end in 2019, but Martin’s fantasy universe still has a lot of life left to give to TV fans. We’ve already gotten Season 1 of the House of the Dragon spinoff show, with Season 2 set to premiere on June 16. We learned in February that HBO is reportedly continuing work on another off-shoot focused on Aegon’s Conquest, though it’s unclear when it will arrive.
