For the past 23 years, mutants have been portrayed in movies as super-powered individuals fighting to survive in a world that simultaneously fears and hates them. They are seen in various media as a marginalized group that is attacked because of their "otherness." However, in the last few years, mutants have become a world power in the comics, having established their own nation, Krakoa, that arguably rivals the technologically advanced country of Wakanda. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has an opportunity to adapt the Krakoan narrative and explore the X-Men in a different setting and storyline that audiences are not familiar with.
