Popular culture showcased werewolves as powerful creatures that represented animal nature within humans. They were shown as power incarnate with a strength unlike anything ever seen and often took over individuals who never asked for such a curse. Those afflicted with lycanthropy rarely felt anything but sadness and fear with each full moon, such as Larry Talbot in The Wolf Man. But even still, those that embraced the murderous qualities of being a werewolf may have found joy in the transformation, like in The Howling. However, in the case of Harry Potter, lycanthropy wasn't a curse that hid power within but an ailment that was more like living in torture for a lifetime.
