Spoiler Warning: The following paragraphs feature spoilers for Ahsoka Episode 1 to 4.

A hot Star Wars debate lasting several months has finally come to an end thanks to fans finding out the truth behind Ahsoka villain Marrok.

Fans have proposed different theories for which deep cut Star Wars character was really behind Marrok's mask after questioning why a Rebels-era villain was showing up in the post-Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi show Ahsoka.

Episode 4 has finally revealed the truth behind the character, however, letting some fans breathe a sigh or relief and others laugh in self-deprecating humour. That's because Marrok, final spoiler warning, is just Marrok.

"Lmao bye Marrok. Was fun seeing people go mad about you cause you had a mask," said one Reddit user in an Episode 4 discussion thread.

"So after weeks of everyone debating if Marrok is Barriss or Starkiller or someone else we know it turns out they are... Marrok," added Crafty_Soul. "Not everyone masked is secretly someone we know. I'm happy they turned out to be a new character; helps the universe feel bigger."

Disney fully confirmed Marrok was a new character too. "Once an Inquisitor hunting Jedi for the Empire, the mysterious Marrok now works as a mercenary hired by Morgan Elsbeth to carry out dark deeds," a Data Bank entry on the Star Wars website revealed in August.

Fans weren't having it though, instead proposing Marrok was perhaps Ezra Bridger, the missing protagonist of Rebels who's apparently with Thrawn on the other end of Episode 4's intergalactic hyperdrive jump.

This wasn't a popular theory though, with many fans equating it to Luke Skywalker himself turning to the dark side. "I'm pretty confident now that Marrok is not Ezra," said one Reddit user. "Relieved that Marrok was just Marrok," added another.

Other theories proposed The Clone Wars' Barriss Offee was behind the mask, or even a failed clone of Anakin Skywalker. Alas, "the real Marrok was the friends we made along the way," Moko12000 quipped.

Episode 4 was full of big reveals, and fans have less idea of what's coming than ever as the remaining four episodes contain just nine seconds of previously seen trailer footage.

These will stream every Tuesday at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern and every Wednesday at 2am UK. Disney revealed 14 million watched its premiere across the world, though third-party data suggests the show came in on par with Andor and down 50% from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In our 7/10 review of the first two episodes, IGN said: "Dave Filoni’s new Disney+ series Ahsoka has plenty of action but still gets off to a slow start by getting viewers up to speed with the events of Star Wars Rebels."

Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day.
