Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has explained why her character hasn't made any proper Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances since Avengers: Endgame.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Larson explained why Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, essentially abandoned earth following the events of Endgame. While the in-universe reason saw Danvers visit hundreds of other planets to save them from threats, fans have pointed out that her immense powers might have saved her fellow Avengers from a whole wealth of problems.
"The way I was able to tap into it and understand it is the concept that Carol kind of became a workaholic, and she lost touch with her heart and with family and friends," Larson said. "That's certainly something I can relate to."
A lot has happened in the MCU since Endgame, though Marvel obviously needed an excuse to stop Captain Marvel from immediately overcoming every other hero's challenge. This would include the world-ending Westview disaster of WandaVision, the world-ending terrorist group in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the world-ending alien attack in Eternals, and so on.
Larson finallys return as Captain Marvel in a non-cameo role in The Marvels, which will see her team up with Ms. Marvel's Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan and Wandavision's Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. It premieres on November 10, with Marvel giving fans its first look in April with a two-minute trailer.
