Lord Of The Rings is J.R.R. Tolkien's most well-known work. LOTR inspired every fantasy story that came after it, but its place in Tolkien's Legendarium is lesser compared to what many consider Tolkien's greatest work - The Silmarillion. It also serves as the inspiration for characters and storylines seen in Amazon Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, though the series has taken some liberties with the source material. The Silmarillion's origins lay in the early days of the twentieth century when the young John Ronald Reuel Tolkien began writing a new mythology for the British Isles. He worked on it throughout his time fighting WWI, coming up with characters and concepts that he would tinker with throughout his life.
