The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is reportedly considering filing an appeal against Microsoft's Activision Blizzard court win on July 11.

An anonymous source familiar with the case told Bloomberg that the FTC is "leaning toward" appealing Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley's ruling in favour of Microsoft. The FTC is allegedly yet to make a final decision but could submit the appeal as early as July 12.

The FTC has already expressed its disappointment in the decision and suggested it wouldn't be accepting the case as lost altogether, as spokesperson Douglas Farrar told IGN: "We are disappointed in this outcome given the clear threat this merger poses to open competition in cloud gaming, subscription services, and consoles.

"In the coming days we'll be announcing our next step to continue our fight to preserve competition and protect consumers.”

The court ruling in favour of Microsoft is a major step towards the $68.7 billion finally going through, though the UK's Competitions and Markets Authority still needs to be won over. Microsoft was in the process of appealing decision to block the deal earlier this year, though this has been paused as the company is now "considering how the transaction might be modified" in order to address the CMA's concerns.
