When Gear Five was first introduced to One Piece, it was one of the biggest plot twists of the series. Not only did Luffy have a new form, but that form was representative of the true nature of the Gum-Gum Fruit. His Devil Fruit was a Mythical Zoan called the Human-Human Fruit Model Nika. What fans once thought granted Luffy the properties of rubber was now also capable of letting him access Toon Force; a new world of possibilities opened up. Unfortunately, anime-only fans likely won't experience the same thrill of seeing Luffy's Awakening for the first time. Besides all the manga readers who spoiled it online, the anime has gone out of its way to reveal the form ahead of time.
