Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, will ring in the holiday season early next year with a theatrical release on November 15, 2024, followed by its Prime Video debut.
Amazon initially announced Red One for release this year, but there is now a new date to circle in the calendar. According to Deadline, the festive flick has landed a theatrical debut ahead of Thanksgiving next year, allowing audiences to enjoy all the holiday hijinks on the big screen before it moves to Prime Video for streaming.
Johnson's Jumanji collaborator Jake Kasdan is helming Red One from a script penned by Fast and Furious scribe Chris Morgan, based on an original story from Hiram Garcia, President of Production at Seven Bucks, who described the upcoming action comedy as an "original Christmas movie like nothing before."
An Instagram post from Johnson previously described the movie as "a big, fun, action packed and fresh new take on Christmas" that is a mash-up of "Jumanji meets Miracle on 34th Street meets Hobbs & Shaw with a dash of Harry Potter and sprinkled on top with my all-time favorite Christmas movie It's a Wonderful Life…"
Johnson stars as a character known as Callum Drift, while Chris Evans plays Jack O'Malley alongside a rockstar version of Santa Claus portrayed by J.K. Simmons. Other members of the star-studded cast include Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Wesley Kimmel.
It will be out in the (Saint) nick of time for the holidays next year, but there are plenty of classic Christmas movies to watch online to tie you over until then.
