Ocean's 11 prequel producer Josey McNamara has promised the film will "do right by the franchise" while hinting at possible future collaborations with Barbie stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Speaking to GamesRadar at the BFI London Film Festival, McNamara confirmed that the upcoming Ocean's 11 prequel is Robbie and Gosling's first movie together after starring in Barbie, this summer's record-breaking blockbuster, though he hopes it marks the first of many "more projects" with the pair.
"I can't really say much, but I think we're just trying to do right by the franchise. I'm excited for people to experience it when it's ready," he said on the Saltburn red carpet, adding, "[Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling] are wonderful together. The more projects, even outside of that, we can have them do would be amazing."
Robbie's name was first attached to the new Ocean's 11 prequel in May 2022, with reports of Gosling's involvement surfacing a few months later in August 2022, shortly after the two actors wrapped production on Greta Gerwig's live-action Barbie movie, in which Robbie plays the titular iconic doll alongside Gosling's Ken.
Barbie landed the best domestic box office opening day of 2023 and has earned over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office since its theatrical debut on July 21, 2023, making it the biggest hit of the year so far, soaring to incredible highs alongside Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which debuted on the same day.
Plot details for the Ocean's 11 prequel are under wraps, but the story will apparently unfold in 1960s Europe. The film is reportedly an original addition to the franchise, which includes the 2001 Ocean's 11 feature (a remake of the 1960 Rat Pack-led movie), two further entries in 2004 and 2007, and an all-female spinoff in 2018.
