Warner Bros. Discovery has hired Succession producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod as the director and writer for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series, the latter of which also worked on Game of Thrones.
Gardiner will serve as series showrunner and executive producer while Mylod will be an executive producer and director of multiple episodes. The duo previously worked together on the HBO original series Succession, both serving as producers.
Gardiner's previous roles also include executive producer on Killing Eve and His Dark Materials. She also has writing credits on His Dark Materials, The Rook, and the Prime Video series The Man in the High Castle.
As for Mylod, he served as director for six episodes of the HBO original series Game of Thrones and as an executive producer on the TV Shows Minority Report, The Affair, and Shameless.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced in 2021 it was working on a TV series based on Harry Potter. The show is set to be a more faithful adaptation of the books authored by J.K. Rowling, with a premiere date sometime in 2026.
No word has been shared on casting yet, but at the very least, original Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe said in 2023 it's unlikely he will make a cameo in the series.
The announcement that Gardiner and Mylod will be hired to spearhead the series comes less than a day after Warner Bros. Discovery announced the Harry Potter TV show, in addition to the It prequel series Welcome to Derry and the newly announced DC series Laterns will be rebranded as an HBO Original series.
