Everyone has their favorite holiday traditions. There was a time when one of the most popular forms of Christmas celebration involved gathering around a fire and swapping spooky ghost stories. That's a tradition Dark Horse Comics aims to revive with a new graphic novel called Four Gathered on Christmas Eve.
Fittingly, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is one of the four creators involved in this unique anthology. IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of his story "Night of the Jaberwok." Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:
In addition to Mignola, Four Gathered on Christmas Eve also features tales from Eric Powell (The Goon), Becky Cloonan (Batgirls) and James Harren (Ultramega). The creative team also includes colorist Dave Stewart and cover artist/designer Phil Balsman.
"I’m very old-school and my favorite kind of old-school is Victorian old-school," Mignola tells IGN. "And my favorite old-school time of the year is Christmas, and (for me at least) there is no better Christmas than old-school Victorian Christmas. Mostly because of the ghosts. Not just Dickens and Jacob Marley and well-meaning ghosts of past and future, but also the creeping horrors, dancing evil shadows and blood-drinking abominations of M.R. James and others like him. Ghost stories for Christmas—I’m very very proud to be a little part of keeping that tradition alive."
Four Gathered on Christmas Eve is a 70-page hardcover. The book is priced at $24.99 and will be released on Wednesday, December 20.
