The Transformers franchise launched in 1984 with the Hasbro line of toys. Based on the conflict between the heroic Autobots and the hostile Decepticons, Transformers has a myriad of stories in the form of comics, movies, and animated television series that accompany the toys. The first media tie-ins were originally created with the intent of helping sell the toys, but what really makes Transformers popular isn’t the exciting merchandise but the characters that are at the center of the stories. No character embodies this better than the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime.
