The PS5 Pro is set to release November 7, but if you want one at launch, you should definitely preorder it. The preorder rollout comes in two waves. The first wave of preorders begins today, Setptember 26, at 7am PT / 10am ET, exclusively at the PlayStation Direct store. A second wave of preorders will go live at other retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart on October 10.

Preorder PS5 Pro Today
The only retailer opening preorders today is PlayStation Direct. In the past, this official Sony retailer has used a queue system that has you wait on a preliminary page until it’s your turn to preorder. You just click the link and then leave the browser window open until the listing loads and you can lock in your preorder.
Preorder Links for Other Retailers (Live October 10)
All other retailers have to wait until October 10 to open up preorders for the PS5 Pro. The listing pages are live now, but you won’t actually be able to make a preorder until 10am ET / 7am PT on October 10. At that point, the links will go live, and you can try to secure a preorder.
PS5 Pro Release Date
Thanks to the two waves of preorders, I’ve been throwing around a lot of dates here, but to be clear: The PS5 Pro actually comes out on November 7. That’s when the initial wave of orders will ship.
PS5 Pro: What’s Included in the Box

PS5 Pro Disc Drive and Stand Are Sold Separately
Unfortunately, the PS5 Pro is a digital-only system out of the box, meaning the disc drive is sold separately. In fact, the box doesn’t even include a stand, so if you want to display your PS5 Pro vertically, you’ll actually need to purchase a stand separately as well. Both are currently available, though stock has been iffy since the PS5 Pro announcement.
PS5 Pro vs. PS5
You may be wondering what’s all the fuss about with the PS5 Pro. It’s a fine question, especially considering there aren’t all that many games that are exclusive to the original PS5. Most games are also available on the PS4 (to say nothing of PC, Xbox, and Switch).
When Mark Cerny announced the PS5 Pro, the big selling point he kept mentioning is that you won’t have to choose between graphics and performance. Many AAA games these days offer you the choice between playing a 60 frames per second with downgraded graphics or at 30 fps with clear, sharp graphics.
Per the official PlayStation Blog post announcing the system, here are the three main highlights of the upcoming console:
- Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
- Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
- AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.
