Anime is not a medium that shies away from exploring sensitive or potentially offensive content, from tamer unpleasantries like excessive violence and gore to severely dubious themes like taboo relationships, sexual abuse, and problematic social ethics. Expectedly, some audiences take offense to shows that tackle such concepts. Yet, controversy in anime isn't exclusive to series with traumatizing content.
