Fans of Magic: The Gathering CCG have a wealth of new expansions available for preorder (you can see them all at Amazon here). A couple of the expansions are video game crossovers, including Fallout and Assassin’s Creed. But one of the most anticipated MTG expansions that’s newly available for preorder is Modern Horizons 3. These cards are available in a variety of options, and they ship June 14. It’s a lot to sift through, so let's break it all down.
MTG: Modern Horizons 3 Bundles
The bundles are often the best-selling items for new expansions, and it’s easy to see why. They come with a little bit of everything, including lands, foils, and Play boosters. The only difference between the standard and Gift Edition is that the Gift Edition comes with 1 Collector Booster as well.
MTG: Modern Horizons 3 Play Booster Box
The Play booster box comes with 36 play boosters, each containing 14 cards. That comes to a grand total of 504 cards — a pretty good haul. Play boosters offer “the best of Draft and Set boosters, combined into one,” according to Wizards of the Coast. Every play booster includes 1-5 cards of rarity Rare or higher and 1-2 shining Traditional Foil cards.
MTG: Modern Horizons 3 Collector Boosters
Pricier yet are Collector boosters — but there’s a reason for the cost. Each of these packs contains 7 alt-frame cards, including the possibility of Retro-Frame, Borderless Profile, Borderless Frame Break, Borderless Concept Eldrazi, and Borderless Fetch Land cards. Also included are 10-12 Traditional Foil cards and may contain Collector Booster exclusive, like Foil-Etched cards, a Textured Foil card, or even a foil Serialized card. Finally, each pack contains 5 cards of rarity Rare or higher.
MTG: Modern Horizons 3 Commander Decks
Available in a bundle (and a collector's edition bundle) or separately, these Modern Horizons 3 Commander Decks are ready to play right out of the box. Each one comes with 15 never-before-seen Commander cards, for a total of 60 if you buy all four. Each deck also includes 2 foil Legendary Creatures. Each deck also comes with a 2-card Collector Booster sample pack containing 2 alt-border cards, including 1 Rare or Mythic Rare and at least 1 Traditional Foil card.
If you spring for the (admittedly incredibly pricy) collector’s edition, you’ll get all the cards upgraded with an exclusive new Ripple Foil treatment, including 2 Borderless Profile Legendary Creatures.
