In the Loki Season 1 finale, the variant God of Mischief and Sylvie went before the Kang variant He Who Remains. Sylvie wanted to kill him, and Loki wanted to help Sylvie. Yet, throughout their conversation, He Who Remains seemed very certain that if she did take his life, he would live again. Even with the cataclysmic conclusion to the fourth episode, Loki Season 2 strongly suggests these characters are part of an ongoing time loop. It's a classic time-travel story convention and helps explain why He Who Remains would want any of this to happen. When Victor Timely meets O.B., he has the same reaction as Casey because they are both fans of his work on the Time Variance Authority Guidebook.
