In anticipation of the launch of the new Analogue 3D console, 8BitDo has announced a new Bluetooth controller to be used with the modernized version of the Nintendo 64. The 8BitDo 64 controller doesn’t launch until Mar. 19, but you can currently reserve your $39.99 controller from Amazon.
The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth controller shares a similar footprint to more modern controllers, but the face buttons and other inputs are intended to directly reflect those found on the original N64 controller with its singular analog stick. While the new controller is clearly designed with the intent to be used with N64 titles, the 64 controller is compatible with Windows, Switch, and Android devices and is fully remappable using 8BitDo’s Ultimate software suite.
If you’re looking for a console to use with your new controller, good news! Analogue has turned its attention to Nintendo’s original 3D console for its latest project in modernizing retro consoles. Shipping early next year, the Analogue 3D is currently available to pre-order directly from the Analogue storefront for $249.99 — just $50 more than the original launch price of the N64, not accounting for inflation — with a limit of two units per customer.
Much like the Analogue’s previous hardware, the Analogue 3D is replete with quality-of-life improvements. Apart from being compatible with every title produced for the N64, the Analogue 3D can natively connect with modern TVs via HDMI for 4K playback and can even be used with any first-party N64 controllers you have. The 3D also comes equipped with internal storage for saving gameplay clips and save states, in addition to an intuitive UI to navigate the different settings on your console.
