Ask anyone: it’s been so nice diving back into the world of Scott Pilgrim and his precious little life with the new Netflix anime series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. But unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like we’ll get any more adventures within this incarnation of his story with Ramona Flowers — and that’s directly from the horse’s mouth, so don’t hold out too much hope.

“It’s self-contained for now,” series creator and original SP manga writer Bryan Lee O’Malley told Rolling Stone of the new show. “We loved what we did. We put it all in there. We don’t have any ideas lying on the floor. We pretty much put them all in. I never say never, but right now, it seems like it would take about 50 different miracles simultaneously for another season to happen. So we’ll see.”

He also noted that the folks behind Takes Off designed the show to be a limited series. “People are always complaining about how shows get canceled after one season,” O’Malley added. “So we hedged our bets immediately, and tried to make a self-contained one season.”

Even the series’ co-showrunner Ben Grabinski echoed the sentiment in a move that seemed to purposefully double down on the sentiment. “We’re not working on [a second season]. We have no official ideas,” the co-writer explained. “We put everything we had into this, and we think it has a really great ending that we’re proud of. I don’t make any plans in general. Maybe some day one of us will text each other an idea that’s really great for a Season Two. But for now, my entire brain and heart is in this thing, and just getting it out into the world.”

Grabinski also noted that the season had “closure” at the end, so it seems as though this adaptation of Scott Pilgrim is officially finished — and honestly, Grabinski is right. The closure built into the series’ writing is really stellar, as is the entire season from a writing perspective, so it really feels like the series is one complete entity rather than a jumping-off point for more adventures. And you know what? Personally, I’m fine with that, no matter how much I love the world of Scott Pilgrim.

The series revived the entire original cast from 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, including Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, Anna Kendrick, and Jason Schwartzman. IGN's Scott Pilgrim Takes Off review returned a 9/10. We called it "a bold reimagining of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels".
