The Marvel Cinematic Universe went through a major narrative transition following The Infinity Saga, where character stories and stakes were raised exponentially. This even went for characters that were introduced before Thanos' defeat, like Nick Fury and Captain Marvel. In Fury's case, more of his story was told in Secret Invasion, as well as his efforts to stop a global invasion of the Skrulls that has changed Earth forever. But Captain Marvel's story has yet to be revisited since she first appeared in Captain Marvel, which was set in the 1990s.
