In his book of essays, Profiles of the Future: An Inquiry Into the Limits of the Possible, Arthur C. Clarke wrote, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." This is both an anthropological truism and the basis for many amazing science fictions stories over the decades. Taken to the extreme, sufficiently evolved races may be indistinguishable from gods to less advanced species. It's a concept with heavy moral implications that Star Trek has explored on more than one occasion.
