Donghua, or Chinese animation, has been on a steady rise in recent years. The leap in quality, as well as a newfound international reach, allowed this previously obscure medium to carve itself a place in the anime community, and each big release sees more and more fans from across the globe take an interest in Chinese animation. While not necessarily referring to “anime-style” animation, donghua that visually correlate to Japanese animation have been especially popular with fans, and the similarities between the two animation styles contributed to donghua finding a worldwide audience.
